The Well-lived Life by Lyndsey Green

This book tackles head first the fact we will die and looks at how we will be viewed once we are gone. There are few books that tackle legacy in such an inspiring and thought provoking way. Most concentrate on the practical steps needed to leave your assets, whereas this book goes far beyond that.

"We've convinced ourselves that we can postpone facing what really matters until some point in time. If we accepted that our eventual death accompanies our every living moment, we might live with more intensity and give more thought to the kind of imprint we will live on earth."

Using a plethora of real stories it illustrates how legacy's can be impacted both financially or reputationally, by who we choose to execute and benefit from our wills. It demonstrates different aspects of a persons legacy; such as a persons accomplishments which may have inspired others to achieve, our values which have been past on to others in the family, foundations set up in a loved ones name or charitable contributions. On each of these topics she goes through potential pitfalls where the legacy may have been lost or altered, but also gives great examples of ways to tell your own story ensuring your narrative is heard and recorded for posterity.

"People say that leaving behind their values and life lessons to their family is more important to their legacy than passing financial assets"

There is some practical advice throughout the book such as explaining the roles of executors and the types of people you should choose and for an executor a realistic understanding of what is involved both practically and emotionally.
